CMA Award of Merit Given to Siggi Pechout

Siggi could never be criticized for not speaking his mind and he has certainly done so as a staunch supporter of the CMA and his club, Second Gear, for many years. His energy and persistence has lead the club through a steady expansion of CMA organized activity including Cross Country, Hare Scrambles, Trials, and Ice Racing and we are sure there is more to come as he is always exploring new possibilities.
He is very active in the off road community in Alberta working to keep riding areas open, and has established strong relationships with all the partners involved in motorcycling; dealers, sponsors, participants and the Provincial Government.
Siggi is truly the backbone of our motorcycling fraternity in that province.

Super Finale to the 2011 CMA Trials Season

2011 Muskeg Trial competitors
Muskeg Trial near Cremona was well received by competitors.  New area offered loads of natural terrain obstacles.

Rob Healy, 2011 Advanced Champion
After securing 2011 Advanced Championship, Rob Healy stepped up to the Expert class against 2011 Champ, Stephen Foord.  Intermediate class was super close with points.  Only 4 point spread between Max and Mark and a tie for 3rd between Glen and Aaron.  Pressure was certainly on in this class.  Junior also closely matched with host, Rob Norton taking first with Lexi and Jeff close behind.  Whether dirtbikes or trials bikes, these 3 are always battling....that is the fun of competition.  SuperVet class saw host, Dale out front ahead of Ken, who recovering from an arm injury, just couldn't stay away for yet another trial.  Well, now you can rest that arm during the winter and be ready for the 2012 season!

1st - Stephen Foord 17pts
2nd - Rob Healy 50pts

Stephen Foord, 2011 Expert Champion

Oct.2nd Wildrose Park Trial Results - Challenging and FUN

Stephen Foord
Oct. 2nd CMA Wildrose Trial Review

The new Endurocross track at Wildrose MX Park offered new sections for trials fans!
Stephen & Ray marked out a 10 sections from Youth to Expert level.  Everyone was challenged with new rock sections, culverts and really BIG rock sections.  Nothing but adding to an already fun trials area.

Stephen finished 1st with 9pts, followed by Shane 2nd with 38pts.
Doug & Rob battled in the Advanced class finishing with only 9 point spread.
New 2011 Intermediates were challenged but closely matched with Glen out riding Aaron by 20pts.  But didn't bother Aaron...he just kept on smiling all day.
Great to have some new riders in the Junior class...even a couple girls in the mix.  Jarrett all the way from Grand
New to trials, Brittany Wilson

Turkey Scrambles Oct 23rd

Written by dustin on September 15th, 2011
The Annual Turkey Scrambles is back!  The Turkey Scrambles is the oldest WRMA event, the final on track event for the year and is the only off road event held at the park.  This year it will be held Sunday October 23rd.  The Turkey Scrambles is a 2 hour mega moto held on an off road course that covers the entire park.  Riders on 85cc and up of all skill levels are welcome to enter but very beginner riders may find the course difficult.  This is a fun event so there is no lap scoring.

Stephen Foord - Expert
Great day at Blackfoot for the Sep.18th CMA Wildrose Trial with course master Stephen Foord.
First 2 sections were deceivingly difficult.  Really, how hard could some off camber turns be on a couple of dirt hills, hmmm, well Ray and Steve definitely tested our skills.   Luckily by round 2 everyone was flowing through the obstacles.
Foordy and Shane were battling out in the Expert class.  There were some very challenging lines laid out for this class even for the course master…or did Ray setup the Expert sections…hmmm.  Regardless, Stephen finished 1st with 20pts, followed by Shane 2nd with 48pts.  Just check out the photos Charla took, you’ll see what I mean.
Rob Healy finished his day with 88pts and 1st in the Advanced class, unfortunately buddy Doug Doel was unable to attend to push Rob.

CMA Fisher Frolic Hare Scramble & Trial OPEN for registration!

Hi folks! Hope you have been enjoying your summer. It's time to get ready for the final hare scramble of the year at McLean Creek (near Bragg Creek). We hope to book a couple more trials events before the snow flies. Note that the hare scramble (also referred to as a Cross Country - Short Course) is starting early on Saturday for the CMA classes (11:00 AM). There is a separate course for the Club Ladies & Club Ladies Advance classes that start at the normal time of 10 AM. Typically, this is one of our tougher events due to the rocky/hilly terrain but has been a favorite for many. Look forward to seeing you all out there! Be sure to register online or send me an email to advise you're planning to attend.

Also, I know that many of you have purchased new trials bikes in the past few months, so we hope to have you out for the trial on

IMPORTANT TRAVEL info to Fisher Frolic

Please note that the Kidney Foundation is hosting their 100km walk this weekend.
See link for route:
Day 1 (Friday) starts in Millarville to hwy 22x then west to hwy 762.  So if you're driving out tonight, recommend that you come from the north (Bragg Creek) and then use hwy 762 to Millarville (just west of town) to hwy 549 which will take you to race site. Or come from Bragg creek to north entrance of McLean Creek.
Day 2 (Saturday) starts north of Bragg Creek (hwy 8 roundabout intersection) south on hwy 22 to hwy 66/22x intersection and then route continues all along hwy 66 past McLean creek north entrance.  Therefore, you MUST travel from hwy 22x west to the hwy 762 turn off and then travel south to hwy 762 to Millarville (just west of town) to hwy 549 which will take you to race site. DO NOT USE NORTH ENTRANCE INTO MCLEAN CREEK!
Day 3 (Sunday) starts north of Bragg Creek (hwy 8 roundabout intersection) and travels north almost to hwy 1, then turns east into Springbank area.  Guessing that by sunday afternoon, the marchers will be off of hwy 22, so don't expect any hangups on Sunday.

RIDERS:  Tentative Saturday Start time is 10:00AM for Club Ladies, 11:00AM for CMA, 2:30PM Sportsman/CMA Mini Senior. Sunday start time is 10:00 AM for kids, 11:00AM for trial.  Judge your travelling time appropriately!

2011 Wild Rose MX EnduroCross Update

For those of you whom may not have seen the posts on RMDRA or Second Gear Club sites, I have been in discussions with Wildrose MX about creating an Endurocross Track at their facility in the near future. Currently, there is sufficient space in the trials park area to accommodate the track and the association will be voting on the track creation during next board meeting to be held September 15, 2011. I have created this e-mail distribution list to keep all informed and also maybe help spur some interest from those whom have not seen the posts on either site mentioned above.

Public Lands Administration Regulation Laws Passed

Public Lands Administration Regulation Allows for Sustainable Use of Land

The Public Lands Administration Regulation will allow government to better manage our increasingly busy landscape to ensure the activities happening on public land are sustainable. It does not apply to private land. The regulation was passed on August 25, 2011, and will be implemented on September 12, 2011.
The regulation focuses on three key themes:
  • land management;
  • compliance and enforcement; and
  • appeals and dispute resolution.
Consultation was a key step in developing this regulation. We engaged stakeholders, First Nations and Albertans online. The online survey attracted 2,139 responses. Most supported the intent of the regulation.

Lightning Motorcycles risks neck for an extra 10 MPH on the Flying Banana

Weeks after breaking the electric motorcycle land speed record, Lightning Motorcycles decided it wasn't satisfied with 206.079 MPH. Shunning a well-deserved vacation, its Flying Banana MK. II bike hit a verified speed of 215.960 MPH. The company is taking orders for the $38,888 eco-widowmaker and assures you it'll be cheap to run -- the record breaking trip in the video below used a mere 18 cents of electricity.

Mclean Creek - Fisher Frolic - Something New

The Mclean Creek Fisher Frolic is in the stages of planning and Flagging! Course builder Mitch Brown is taking a newer approach of making the course a bit longer this year to prevent any trail damage or erosion that may happen from the traffic of this popular race. It is the last one of the season for all of Alberta!

"This year the course is going to test all of your skills, the choice to make it longer was mainly due to trail damage with 100+ riders over two hours, but also to show riders more of McLeans trails. And yes Ive read the rule book, and it says, Cross Country - Short Course, I intend to do just that. I have also added some newer "Special Test" sections for the Intermediates, Experts & Pros which will have a 2nd check at the end for them".

Mitch says to expect a 20-25KM loop with NO gas checks for the main CMA. It is a technical yet fun course with many breaks along the way, however he expects midpack novice riders to do 1-2 laps.

  • 25KM
  • 11AM START
  • Special MANDATORY Test section for Inter/Exp/PRO
  • Technical with sizable climbs and downhills
  • No Gas Check (Bail out Point at 1/3 Marker)
  • Lower Levels will have some difficulty on hill climbs
  • Small Wheel (125ttr & CR150) will have problems.

Additionally this year Mitch is going to have Kilometer marker signs along the way so you can pace yourself & identify spots during the course for bench racing and as precautionary as there are no parade laps.

With the CMA license at a lower rate and riding season coming to a end as soon as the snow flys, Mitch hopes the attendance of Mclean will be as good as in 2010.

NOTICE – Endurocross Track Build Planned for Wildrose MX Park – Calgary
