SGC says goodbye to family

MERCIER, Shauna Marie (nee Duffy) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shauna Marie Mercier (nee Duffy) on June 2, 2011. A beautiful soul, who lost her long battle with breast cancer. Shauna was born in Lacombe on April 30, 1970. She had a happy, busy childhood.
Long days were spent at the local swimming pool which eventually turned into some time as a competitive diver. She also figure skated and spent time as a cheerleader. Many hours were spent outdoors and camping with her family. As a young adult she went to Business College and worked a number of jobs that she excelled at. She met and married Kevin Mercier in 1995 and they had three awesome children. Jeremy, Jenna and Ashlynn were her world. She made sure that every birthday was fun and special, that she volunteered at school and that she was always there for them no matter how awful she felt. A highlight for her was taking the family to Disneyland where they could just be a regular family on vacation. Fernie was also a favourite place to hang out and great family memories were created there. Dirt biking was a particular love for Shauna and her family. They spent many weekends with the Second Gear Club riding and socializing. Shauna was a doer. If she decided that something needs doing then it usually happened that day. She was creative and was a great photographer, although she never gave herself credit for that. She was an auntie that all of her nieces and nephews admired and loved. She was a confidante and friend to many, as well as an inspiration and role model for all of us. Shauna is survived by her loving husband, Kevin; children Jeremy, Jenna and Ashlynn; parents John and Leona Duffy; sister Lee Ann (Brent); brother Terry (Karyn); mother and father-in-law, Joe and Vivian Mercier; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of Shauna's Life will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Olds College Alumni Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or charity of choice. HEARTLAND FUNERAL SERVICES LTD, Olds entrusted with arrangements.
