Feb.12th Cow Lake Oval & Sprint Ice Race is a GO!

Feb.12th Cow Lake Oval and Sprint (Two-Way) Ice Race is A GO!
The weather has cooled off, the ice has thickened and firmed and with some snow today, we have perfect conditions for ICE RACING!    So get ready for the first National of the season, Round 2 for Provincial Oval points and our VERY first Sprint Provincial event.
Two styles of racing at the SAME location, same pits.  This is exciting news! If anyone is available to volunteer to corner flag the sprint race, we could use with a few extras...even if you bring a buddy to visit with or to trade off with, we would really appreciate the extra help
Randy has built a new oval track for the weekend as well as a new sprint track.  We will be entering ice on the west side through campground as we did at the last race.  Wildrose Concession will be onsite early with muffins and breakfast sausage rolls ready to start your day.
Hopefully everyone had a chance to make any necessary adjustments to fenders and don’t forget your chestprotector and Snell 2010 or ECE22-05 approved helmet.  Let’s go RACING!
Awards will again be at the Hardendell Hall immediately after race.  I must compliment all of you racers and organizers for being on time for registration and on deck to race.  That was the earliest we ever finished an ice race I think!  Poor Jolene wasn’t expecting us for supper quite so soon!  I hope the race runs as smoothly this weekend and everyone races safely.
Race location: Follow directions to Rocky Mountain House.  From the East, travel on hwy 11 towards RMH, turn left onto hwy 752 Access road (west of hwy 22 intersection and just before entering RMH).  Continue on hwy 752 Access road approx 3km, you will come to the t-intersection of hwy 752, turn left and continue on hwy 752 approximately 14km to Grandview Stage station.  Road turns south, follow to Cow Lake Campground entrance (west side of lake).  You will be turning left into Cow Lake.  In previous years we used the north entrance but it is impassable this year.
Awards location:  Hardendell Hall 2 1/2 miles east of Grandview Stage (hwy 752).
As this is the first Sprint (two-way) race, here’s is the Tentative Race Order
AM 450 CUP
PRO 250
VET 25+
UTV Studded
UTV Non Studded

Registration and start times identical to Oval. Thank you to Randy and Laurie Anne for organizing/co-ordinating the race and Alex Baumann of Baumann Hoe & Bobcat for being our designated grader for the weekend.   A big thank you again to the Canadian Vintage Group from Ponoko for flagging the oval.  All the best to our new volunteers that will be running the Sprint racing....honestly, we really have the best group of volunteers!
Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
